It was the stompfest I was hoping for this weekend. FSU defeats Wake Forest easily. Each week the Noles just keep getting stronger.

I'm thinking of turning this cartoon into a youtube video. First I need to figure out how to do the animation.

Always Look At The Bright Side Of Life

Click on image to see larger image.
Been a good week.
Elizabeth Warren was appointed to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (good move Obama!).
Saw my father-in-law this weekend. He looked pretty good. He's having a biopsy this week (fingers crossed).
FSU beat BYU. Ponder looked awesome. I am starting the Bjorn Werner fan club.
Some indication in the NY Times that we are starting to come back from the recession (sorry no link).
The title of this cartoon obviously came from the song in the Monty Python movie Life of Brian.

Onward Christian Ponder

After the disastrous loss to Oklahoma, FSU is seeking redemption against BYU. This weekend we're gonna catch that pass and kick their ass, for mom and FSU.

So How Was Your Day?

click on image to see larger image
I guess FSU can forget about that national championship and Heisman. Still trying to recover after the Noles disastrous 47-17 loss to Oklahoma.
Not in a good mood today. Thats my explanation for today's cartoon. So how was your day?

Go Noles!

FSU is playing Oklahoma today.
I say:

Onward Christian Ponder
Marching down to score!

Go Noles!

Us and Them

When I was in college I read this book by a theologian who made a point about bigotry that I never forgot. Most of us have prejudices and believe in stereotypes. We probably can't help it. Its human nature. The problem is when we cross that line and start dividing the world into "us" and "them" that bad things happen. Seeing others as "one of them" opens the door towards the worst forms of man's inhumanity and depravity. Underneath the labels that people tag each others with, whether it be "Muslim", "Hispanic", "Jew", "Fundamentalist", we are all part of the human race. There is no "them". We are all "us".

New Cartoon - Norma Rae In Heaven

click on image if you want to see larger image
Todays cartoon is dedicated to Crystal Lee Sutton. She was the person who the movie Norma Rae was based on. I saw her once after the movie came out. She lived and died fighting for the rights of working people. She died about a year ago of cancer after her health insurance refused to cover her medications.
Also a Labor Day remembrance of Harvey Pekar who passed away recently. He was the author of American Splendor, the autobiographical graphic novel which celebrated the lives of ordinary people.

New Cartoon - I Have Some Bad News

Click on image to see larger image.
Here is a cartoon I did about writers block. One of the things I try to do is to write down any ideas I have as soon as I can. Otherwise I forget, especially those ideas that come in the early morning when you are half asleep. The thing I try not to do is to force it. I mean isn't this supposed to be fun?

Funny Times Is Awesome

A big recommendation for the website and newspaper Funny Times. If you like humorous political and social cartoons then you need to check them out. If you don't maybe you need to check your pulse. Anyway, I subscribe.

One of the features of their website is that they you provide you an opportunity to use their clipart to create your own cartoons. All the cartoons you see on my blog were created that way. Check out the Cartoon Playground.

Their website is http://www.funnytimes.com/.

New Cartoon - Groundhog Day

Today's cartoon was inspired by the movie Groundhog Day. I'm doing my part to try to break the cycle by taking the day off from work. WOOOOO!!!

Rick Scott Is Evil

Rick Scott is the Republican nominee for the governor from Florida. He won the nomination with the support of the tea party and by spending $50 million of his own money to defeat Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum.

Rick Scott is evil. He was CEO of the hospital chain Columbia/HCA which was involved in one of the largest cases of medicare fraud ever, for which they were fined $1.7 billion dollars. He also helped sabotage the public option.

There are some progressives that were hoping Scott would win because they believe he will be an easier candidate for Alex Sink to defeat than Bill McCollum. I wasn't in this camp. Even though Sink is ahead in the polls, Scott has plenty of money to spend. As he demonstrated against McCollum, image can trump reality when you have lots of money to spend on television ads. Alex Sink has got to win this election. Florida cannot afford 4 years of Scott.

Podcasts I Like - Bruno and the Professor

Bruno and the Professor provides in-depth analysis of current issues from a progressive point of view.

Except for education reform (more on this at a later time) I agree with most of what they say.

Check them out on Itunes.

At Long Last - Football Season Is Almost Here - New Cartoon

Click on image to see larger image.
The new football season starts this week. FAMU plays Miami. Go Rattlers. FSU plays Samford in Jimbo Fisher's first game as head coach. FSU's defense should be improved over last years (could they get much worse?). I hope its a stompfest. Go Noles.

Dumbing Down Our Country

I was watching the movie Idiocracy and I had this uncomfortable feeling that I was staring into the future. To quote Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention "It can't happen here." Can it?
